Vilnius

Vilnius is full of classical buildings. The archway on the left hosts the Church of the Virgin Mary and haunting tunes can sometimes be heard if you are in the area when a service is in progress.

On the right we have the Presidential Palace which is fronted by a large square where you can sit and enjoy the view.

Vilnius has a lot of very modern history. On the left we see the section of barricades which have been preserved in the city since the revolution of the early 1990s.

On the right is a room from the KGB Museum where you can see the uniforms of the guards and feel what it was like to sit in some of the tiny cells.

Just down the road from the hotel is the TV tower. It can be a bit of a pain to get to but the views from the top were worth it.
Just sitting there with a cold beer admiring the view was one of the most relaxing experiences in Vilnius.

From here you can see the extensive woodland areas which you can wander around.

The city itself has lots of excellent restaurants and enough bars to have a good night out!

Vilnius is a great city to wander around and explore. Food and beer is very good and very affordable. Once you have got to grips with the maps, the tram system works well and you'll find it easy to get around.
From Vilnius you can get on a bus and travel for half an hour or so to Trakai.
